Informational Interviews

Informational interviews put you in touch with someone in the organization that can tell you lots about the company and the jobs it offers. So who wants to sit and talk with you about the company when there is no opening listed? Lots of people! In fact, people love to talk about themselves and tell you all about what they do. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn firsthand about what it’s really like to work in a particular field.
In order to set up an "informational interview," simply call a company that would hire someone in your field and ask if there is someone you can talk to about “XYZ” careers. Ask if you can come in and take a few minutes of their time. You can also ask acquaintances about their jobs and maybe have them sit with you and tell you in detail what its like to work in their field, or arrange to visit them on the job.
You would be surprised at what you can learn about positions, and also it’s another great opportunity to leave your great resume with yet another potential employer. It just might even lead to a job offer...
