"Planned Vacations vs. New Job Opportunities"
Written by Kathy Marshall, Professional Resume Writer
Okay so you have decided it’s time to get a new job or your employer just laid you off and your paid vacation is coming up next month. You need to find a new job, you have your great resume from 1-on-1-resumes.com, but the beach chair and walking trails are calling your name. Now what?
Here are some positive ways to handle this sticky situation. Proceed with your job search. Most employers will understand a pre-paid vacation. They just don’t want any funny little surprises. Once they seem serious about making you a job offer, explain the situation to them. You can soften the blow by telling by letting them know you are willing to start work right away, and wouldn’t expect paid time off the first year. Perhaps you can offer to work extra hours later to fill in for another’s vacation time. Offer to use some of that beach time to read the company manual or some how-to descriptions about your new duties. Turn the situation into a plus.
Most employers realize that summer is usually vacation time, and even plan new hire dates around it. So don’t put off that job search because you need a little rest and relaxation. Just know how to handle the situation in a mature matter, just like you will handle the job!
