"RESUME FOLLOW-UP - GIVING THANKS (THANK YOU LETTERS)"
Written by Lori White, Certified Resume Strategist
So, you've succeeded at getting that job interview and you think it went pretty well. Now it is a waiting game to see if the employer will call you back and offer you the position..... or is it?
It's critically important to write a thank-you letter after a job interview for several reasons. First, it separates you from the competition that does NOT bother to send a letter of thanks. Second, it reiterates your interest in the job. Third, it brings the employer's attention back to YOUR name, and YOUR qualifications for the position.
The thank-you letter can also be used to clarify areas of the discussion that you had with the interviewer, and shine emphasis on your key selling points, especially if weaknesses were raised or you lacked the experience as opposed to other candidates. You can even highlight any useful details that you may have forgotten to mention in the interview.
Sending a thank-you letter indicates professionalism, initiative, follow-through, and persistence - qualities that employers and hiring directors appreciate and seek in job candidates.
