Why "Smart" People Can’t Write Their Own Resumes
Written by Kathy Marshall, Professional Resume Writer
Most people can’t write their own resumes. Maybe you get too close to the topic, or maybe it just takes a special set of skills. It’s not a bad thing, but it is a fact.
Resumes are not that easy to write. You have to take a lot of information, pare it down to the most important facts, try to put years of experience on one page – the employers preference, and not miss a single important thing.
The trick is to capture all that is relevant for the position you are applying for, while leaving off the less important. Also, it is not necessary to put references on the resume. The resume is used to get your foot in the door. When you are called in for an interview you can bring a list of your references.
How about personal information? Leave off the pronoun “I” on your resume, use strong skill words to describe what you did and most importantly the impact you had on the position. Don’t include marital status, anything related to your race or religion. These are issues that are illegal to ask about during an interview. While you don’t need to hide anything, they have no place on the resume.
It all can be very confusing. Let our EXPERT resume writers help and help bright you write your resume.
